About The Role

We are seeking an experienced, proactive Funding & Special Projects Accountant to join our team on a permanent full time basis. The role is full time (35 hours per week) but we are open to flexible working hours to suit the successful candidate providing that they also meet business requirements. The role will be based at our Sport Park Office in Loughborough with occasional home working.

Job Summary

Reporting to our Finance Director the Funding & Special Projects Accountant will play a key role in Swim England’s financial strategy and operational performance.  This is a hands on role to support project work, driving improvements. This position involves providing business partnering support to the Sport Development Director to effectively manage contractual relationships with funding authorities as well as working alongside the FRP&A team to produce high quality management accounts for Swim England.

The Funding and Special Projects Accountant will be responsible for all aspects of Grant Funding Management including providing guidance on best practice and policies with regards to the financial management of restricted grant funded projects.

This is an opportunity to join an organisation driven by our values and a new strategy, launched in November, “One Swim England”.

We are looking for a fully qualified accountant with at least ten years post qualifying experience along with specific experience of the financial management of grant funded projects. 
 
In this role you will also need to have excellent IT skills with the ability to use main Microsoft Office applications, including Advanced Excel along with excellent stakeholder care skills.  Highly analytical with strong business acumen, you will have a proactive, solution-focused approach with a passion for driving results and continuous improvement.

 

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • All aspects of Grant Funding Management
  • Provision of a Management Accounts service to identified business areas
  • Have a detailed understanding of our restricted multi layered funding across Talent and Core activities to manage effective planning and forecasting across multiple year ends to ensure the best use of funding
  • Provide forecasting, budgeting and management accounts for special projects, transformation activity etc.
  • Work alongside the financial accounting team to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the finance system

About You

You don’t need to be able to swim to work with us, but a passion for the role that sport and physical activity can play in society would be advantageous!
 
In order to be shortlisted for the next stage in the process you must demonstrate within your application and covering letter your experience of the key areas of responsibility as well as how you meet the essential criteria listed below:
 
  • Fully Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA or CIMA) with at least 10 years post qualifying experience
  • Specific experience of the financial management of grant funded projects
  • Excellent IT skills with the ability to use main Microsoft Office applications, including Advanced Excel
  • Excellent accuracy in numeracy and literacy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent stakeholder care skills
  • Proven ability to work both within and lead a team
  • Sets high standards for self and the department
  • Committed to developing own skills and experience in order to expand capabilities of department
