About The Role

Great coaching is central to our Swim England vision of ‘Championing a healthy and successful nation through swimming’ and mission to create ‘Improve the health and success of the nation by enabling access to aquatics for all’.

Great coaches shape and enrich the lives of those participating in our aquatic sports. They are the life-blood of our clubs and sports programmes; providing guidance, support and encouragement in order to help people to achieve their personal goals and aspirations. 

We are seeking to engage a Coach Developer to work in the London region to support the delivery of the 'Inspire' Coach Mentoring Programme. The fundamental aim of this role and the programme is to mentor and empower coaches to be able to effectively support their own development needs and the holistic learning and development needs of the athletes, facilitating the vision of great coach and athlete experiences.

The services we require are for a knowledgeable and capable coach to provide mentoring support to coaches until 31st September 2026. The contractor needs to be able to ensure that coaches have a positive sporting experience and are given the best opportunity to realise their full potential in line with Swim England values culture and strategy.

Reporting to the Coach Development Manager, you will be responsible for mentoring and developing coaches.

The time commitments for this contract is approximately 82 hours over a 12 month period or potentially less if spread over a shorter period of time.

The rate of pay for this contract is £500 per mentee allocated over the 12 month period, plus travel expenses to be agreed.

About You

The successful candidate must:

  • Have a track record of consistently producing swimmers to national youth level and above.
  • The ability to mentor, motivate, support and empower individuals to thrive.
  • An ability to be objective and offer a different perspective to balance points of view.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills which make people feel valued, supported and listened to.
  • Possess excellent sporting knowledge, specifically in regards to the Swim England Talent System and the Optimal Athlete Development Framework.
  • Have previous experience of mentoring swimming coaches.
  • Have an excellent understanding of coach education and coaching.
  • Hold experience in providing feedback and evaluating individual plans.
  • The ability to be a role model.
  • Be an active member of a Swim England affiliated club and be logged on the swim England Teacher and Coaching register.
  • Hold a Swim England Senior Coach Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Be willing to undertake a DBS check.
