About Us

Our Purpose and Vision

As the recognised national governing body for swimming, artistic swimming, diving and water polo in England, Swim England helps people learn how to swim, enjoy the water safely, and compete in all our sports.

Our Vision is to champion a healthy and successful nation through swimming and aquatic activity. The ability to swim is a life-skill that is essential to keep us safe in, on and around water. It is one of the nation’s most popular recreational activities enjoyed by millions of people in England.

Swim England, through aquatics, is uniquely placed to tackle inequalities and support health and wellbeing given the activities’ accessibility to people of all ages and abilities. On top of this, aquatics is made up of four amazing Olympic and Paralympic sports with our network of clubs and talent pathways supporting people to realise their full potential in the water.

In March of this year, we published in full the findings of an independent listening research report commissioned as part of our pledge to create a better future for everyone involved in aquatic sports. We are committed to only recruiting individuals who are as passionate as we are about being on this journey.

Volunteers form the backbone and heart of our Swim England family. They support our clubs, events and programmes across the country and they help ensure our aquatic sports grow and thrive. Our volunteers are our biggest asset and their contribution is invaluable. About The Role

Swim England West Midlands Region has an exciting vacancy that has recently opened up; to bring onboard a new Regional Chair. This is an opportunity to join the region during a period of evolution and change, with the recent release of the new 4 year strategy, which sees a focus on robust governance, supporting and educating the workforce, improving communication, growing the membership, and strengthening relationships along the pathway.

We welcome applications from someone who has a passion to drive change and improve our services, as well as an enthusiasm to bring key stakeholders together, motivate them and work in partnership, with the members of the region at the heart of every decision made. Whilst experience working within the aquatic community would be beneficial, we acknowledge that someone from a business, financial or sports background, that may be non-aquatic related, would bring a lot to the table in driving our strategy and ambitions forward.

The role involves leadership to the Board of directors, liaison with Swim England and our regional counties and sub-committees, acting in the best interests of the region and playing an influential part in the Swim England governance system. It is key that we find someone who can be readily available to attend and chair meetings and deal with issues that may arise as and when required. If you have experience in good governance, chairing a board or committee, working to drive strategic plans and goals, and have good communication skills, organisation skills, as well as people management experience, we want to hear from you. For more information about the role and the responsibilities, please see the attached role description, which includes contact information; we would welcome an informal chat about the role if you have any questions or you want to know more before making an application.
